WALTHAM, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Wolters Kluwer Health, a leading global provider of information for healthcare professionals and students, announced today that Houston’s Memorial Hermann Health System has launched UpToDate® Anywhere as its evidence-based clinical decision support resource. The largest not-for-profit health system in southeast Texas, Memorial Hermann is answering the call from its 5,000 affiliated physicians for anytime, anywhere mobile access to UpToDate’s comprehensive clinical content and recommendations.
Based in Houston and ranked among the top 5 large health systems in the nation, Memorial Hermann consists of 12 hospitals and numerous specialty programs and services. This includes Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center, one of the nation's busiest Level I trauma centers and the primary teaching hospital for The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) Medical School. The health system’s affiliated physicians and clinical staff rely on UpToDate Anywhere to improve clinical decisions at the point of care.
“UpToDate has always offered a fantastic repository of evidence-based clinical research and expert consensus of care, but with UpToDate Anywhere, it has advanced its product even more,” said Robert Murphy, M.D., Chief Medical Informatics Officer (CMIO) at Memorial Hermann. “UpToDate Anywhere brings a robust source of information to multiple devices so whether our clinicians are in the hospital, on a clinical computer in a nursing unit, in their offices or walking the halls with an iPhone or iPad, it’s possible to connect to quickly find answers. That’s incredibly helpful.”
UpToDate Anywhere provides robust tools that streamline user registration and ongoing management of mobile access to UpToDate for clinicians. CMIOs across the US and Canada are also leveraging UpToDate Anywhere to achieve workflow integration objectives by embedding UpToDate in electronic medical record (EMR) systems. As the largest not-for-profit Cerner® site in the US, plans are already underway to embed UpToDate in Memorial Hermann’s Cerner EMR environment, including via HL7 Infobutton technology.
Dr. Murphy adds that physician usage of UpToDate since implementation of UpToDate Anywhere has tripled his expectations, noting, “As a mid-career physician, when I trained in residency, there were the standard textbooks in our respective fields. Today, for us, UpToDate is the definitive source for rounds and research on patients. It’s the premier medical resource out there.”
“With UpToDate Anywhere, clinicians in large hospital systems like Memorial Hermann now have anytime, anywhere access to the clinical answers they need while using their EMR, during rounds, in the hall between patients, or at home catching up on charts,” said Denise Basow, MD, Vice President/General Manager, UpToDate at Wolters Kluwer Health, Clinical Solutions. “Working with Memorial Hermann, we can make a substantial impact on the quality and effectiveness of healthcare in southeast Texas, one clinical decision at a time.”
