New Study Says Close to Half of Female Professionals in America “Hanging on by a Thread”

70% Polled Say Can’t Have Success at Both Work and Home

NEW YORK--()--A new analysis published today, called the “Getting Real About Women and Work Survey,” shows that of 1,000 American women polled, 70% admit that they don’t believe they have all the things they want and need to make them happy. According to the study, nearly half of the respondents described their life over the last year as “hanging on by a thread.”

The poll was conducted by career strategist and author of the newly released title, Getting Real About Having It All, Megan Dalla-Camina. Dalla-Camina decided to check the pulse of women in America to see how they are doing overall with the age-old dilemma of work-life balance.

She surveyed 1,000 female professionals across the country, ranging in age from 18 to 55 to see if woman in America feel they can “have it all.” Below are the findings from the survey, and in her book, she has some actionable steps women can take to improve upon their situation.

  • Most American women are struggling with their wellbeing - and 40% say they are “hanging on by a thread.”
  • Close to 50 percent surveyed want more time to themselves – with sex at the bottom of the list!
  • Close to ¾ of the women surveyed think it's impossible for a woman to be successful at work and at home and “have it all.”

“The results are startling,” says Dalla-Camina. “Particularly concerning is that while women have made great progress on the career front, 70% of women think it’s just not possible to be successful at work and home. Add to this the fact that the majority of women surveyed are really struggling with their wellbeing, and we have a scary picture of the reality of being a woman today trying to make it all work.”
