Ambry Genetics Announces Title Sponsorship for Standup For The Cure

ALISO VIEJO, Calif.--()--Ambry Genetics, the worldwide leader in hereditary cancer testing, is excited to announce its partnership with Standup For The Cure for their third annual fundraiser on Saturday, May 3, 2014 for a day of awareness, stand up paddling and philanthropic fun benefitting the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

"We are so excited that Standup For The Cure is growing and this year we are increasing our emphasis on saving lives. We are delighted to welcome Ambry Genetics to our team this year,” said Judie Vivian, founder of Standup For The Cure. “Genetic testing represents the future and can be used to take a proactive approach to breast cancer, giving women an opportunity to assess their risk of this disease. We are expecting over 1,000 participants and look forward to an amazing ‘Sea of Pink’ Paddle that will truly reflect our motto of ‘Have Fun and Save Lives’.”

This sponsorship is part of Ambry Genetics’ ongoing commitment to cancer awareness, education and research. Standup For The Cure is an excellent opportunity for families, friends and breast cancer survivors to raise funds to help save lives; it’s also a fun way to learn how to standup paddleboard, a water sport that originated in Hawaii.

During this year’s fundraising event, Ambry will bring its signature style of going above and beyond by hosting a tent in the survivors’ village and will have Genetic Counselors onsite to help educate participants about breast cancer genetics and answer questions regarding genetic testing. Ambry has also formed a fundraising team and has many employees joining in to help raise funds for the Orange County affiliate of Susan G. Komen.

“Ambry is very excited to be a part of this event and we hope to be an educational resource for individuals and families touched by cancer. Several Genetic Counselors from Ambry will be on hand to answer general questions about cancer genetics, and to help those interested in genetic testing get in touch with the appropriate medical providers. We look forward to providing helpful information to all of the wonderful people supporting this event while also enjoying a day full of fun, sun, and paddleboarding,” said Stephany Connor, MS, CGC, Cancer Reporting Supervisor.

The event features a ‘Sea of Pink’ Paddle for paddlers of all ages and abilities, as a ceremonial parade in celebration of the breast cancer survivors. Immediately following the fun paddle are the 5K, kids race, and the team relay race. There will be live musical entertainment by the Wheeland Brothers, a SUP clinic lead by world-class paddler, Zane Schweitzer, a yoga paddleboard lesson for breast cancer survivors led by survivor, Suzanne Yeo, and an exhibitors’ expo. Kaiser Permanente will also hold a Health Expo with free screenings for Breast Cancer and Melanoma. Ruth’s Chris Steak House will serve lunch and Kona Brewing Company along with Barefoot Winery will serve drinks for happy hour.

“Every family is affected by cancer in some way; we all share that connection. I am honored to have the opportunity to give back in a way that is so close to home, along with raising awareness for patients and families. Helping people is an honor and privilege and I believe it is my calling,” said Kala Alexander, Vice President of the Mauli Ola Foundation, who will also be traveling from Hawaii, to be onsite to attend and participate.
