Peter Resnick to lead Grant Thornton’s New England practice

Sean Denham to lead Northeast region Audit practice; Scott Trenholm named New England Audit practice leader

BOSTON--()--Grant Thornton LLP named Peter Resnick, 42, assistant managing partner of its New England practice, which includes the firm’s offices in Boston; Westborough, Mass.; and Glastonbury, Conn., effective immediately. Effective Aug. 1, 2014, Resnick will become the New England practice’s managing partner. In addition, the firm named Sean Denham, 41, as leader of the Northeast region Audit practice and Scott Trenholm, 53, as leader of the New England Audit practice, also effective immediately.

Resnick currently serves as a member of the New England leadership team and the Forensics and Litigation Services practice leader for the firm’s Boston office, a role in which he will continue. As managing partner, he will succeed Joel Anik, who will serve in an advisory role for the New England practice through Dec. 31, 2014.

Resnick has experience in forensic accounting, financial consulting, financial statement audits, and accounting and fraud investigations. His clients have included law firms, Fortune 500 companies, high-tech manufacturing and software companies, health care providers and insurers, and not-for-profit organizations. He has also consulted for the life sciences, waste management and food service industries. Resnick has provided expert testimony and analysis at trial, deposition, arbitration and mediation proceedings.

Prior to joining Grant Thornton, he was the co-national leader of the Disputes and Investigation practice for Huron Consulting Group. Resnick is a certified public accountant (CPA) in Massachusetts, a certified fraud examiner and certified in financial forensics. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), the Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants and the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners.

Resnick received a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

Denham will continue in his role as the assistant office managing partner of the Metro New York Cluster, which includes the firm’s offices in midtown and lower Manhattan, Long Island, Albany and Edison, N.J. Trenholm is an Audit Services partner and partner-in-charge of the firm’s Connecticut office.

Denham previously served as the Northeast region National Professional practice director. With more than 20 years of experience in public accounting, he specializes in SEC regulatory issues and Public Company Accounting Oversight Board matters. He has extensive experience in IPOs, mergers and acquisitions, and other complex business transactions.

Previously, Denham worked for Amper, Politziner & Mattia LLP (now EisnerAmper LLP) and Ernst & Young LLP. He is a CPA in New Jersey, New York and Virginia, and is a member of the AICPA, for which he serves on the XBRL Assurance Task Force. He is also a member of the New Jersey Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Virginia Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

Denham received a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Lehigh University and currently serves on Lehigh’s Accounting Advisory Board.

Trenholm has more than 30 years of experience in auditing and financial consulting and has directed numerous audits for publicly held and closely held commercial enterprises, including those with international operations. His financial consulting experience is focused on resolving financial reporting issues, internal control risk assessments and strategic planning. He has extensive experience working with publicly traded manufacturing companies and has also audited not-for-profit organizations, including social service agencies, and health care and insurance organizations.

Trenholm joined Grant Thornton following the firm’s acquisition of CCR LLP in 2011. A CPA in Connecticut and Massachusetts, he is a member of the Connecticut Society of Certified Public Accountants and the AICPA. He is a member of the board of directors of Greater Hartford Legal Aid and serves as the treasurer and member of the board of governors of The Hartford Club. He also serves on the University of Connecticut Accounting Department Advisory Board.

Trenholm received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Connecticut.
