Tada.com's Fourth Quarter Coupon Study Reveals Why Wealthy Stay Wealthy

LOS ANGELES--()--In a surprising study about the couponing habits of online shoppers, Tada.com might have unlocked one of the reasons that the wealthy stay wealthy: They are active couponers. Tada commissioned a study of 8,498 online shoppers, who were surveyed immediately after they checked out from 3,394 retailers. These retailers represent a full span of e-commerce players across all categories.

“Fascinatingly, we found that those shoppers who have a household income of at least 150K are far more coupon-addicted,” explained David Weinrot, CMO of Shopzilla, Tada’s parent company.

The wealthiest are also more swayed by the presence of a coupon when it came to completing their transaction. “Sixty-five percent of the wealthiest shoppers claim that they would not have made their purchase without the coupon,” Weinrot added, “whereas only 51% of the under 40K set would have balked without a deal.”

In addition, this most recent study found that more than half of the shoppers who used a coupon during their transaction were inspired to shop because they had received the deal, while 47% found the item they wanted, and then the deal.

“We were also surprised to discover that very few consumers who claim to like coupons actually bother to look,” adds Weinrot. “Seventy-four percent of those who checked out without a coupon claim they didn’t search for one, though 71% of that same set would have spent more if they had a deal.”

Tada.com, launched earlier in 2013, offers coupons from more than 6,400 retailers. To minimize customer frustration, Tada lists when a coupon was last used by a verified online buyer, ensuring that the deal content is always fresh.
