SYRACUSE, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Systems Made Simple, Inc. (SMS), a leading provider of IT systems and services to support critical architecture, data and application challenges in the healthcare industry, today announced that it has been awarded a re-compete of the Integrated Electronic Health Record (iEHR) System Integration contract from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and Department of Defense (DoD) Interagency Program Office (IPO). Under this contract, SMS will provide systems integration and engineering support for executing the iEHR initiative.
Transitioning health records from one complex healthcare system to another involves unprecedented coordination of data and information between the DoD and the VA. Fortunately, a technological solution selected by the DoD and VA and currently being implemented by SMS will help ensure that clinicians can access one holistic health record for each military veteran.
Through the iEHR project the IPO aims to create data interoperability through a single, common health record between all VA and DoD medical facilities. The contract will enable these healthcare providers to access the health information of veterans and active military members across their lifetimes and leverage longitudinal patient records for determining treatment plans.
SMS was awarded a re-compete of the iEHR System Integration contract under the National Institutes of Health Information Technology Acquisition and Assessment Center’s Chief Information Officer, Solutions and Partners 3 (CIO-SP3) small business contract vehicle. As a prime contractor on the project, SMS will:
- Help facilitate data interoperability between the VA and DoD’s disparate software systems;
- Oversee the planning of the integration effort through a service-oriented architecture approach; and
- Create terminology translation services that bring together data from the two agencies in a common format.
“As a Service-disabled, Veteran-owned Business, we are proud to be part of a project that aims to improve healthcare delivery for our nation’s Veterans and active military members,” said Al Nardslico, president and co-founder of SMS. “The VA and DoD currently run two of the largest healthcare systems in the world, and our team is dedicated to providing the right technology and services that focus on ensuring this integration effort is a success.”
