LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--DEL REY ENTERTAINMENT in conjunction with Liberman Broadcasting entertained tens of thousands of Latinos, and their families, in what has been billed as the largest Mexican Independence concert festival event in the United States.
Over 14 of the top Latino music acts in Regional Mexican and Pop music reverberated throughout the packed park including energetic performances by Intocable, a memorable collaboration between Gerardo Ortiz and Espinoza Paz, Tucanes de Tijuana, Gloria Trevi, and Ana Barbara to name a few.
The recently appointed Mexican consulate Carlos Sada led the “El Grito de la Independencia” ceremony (“Cry of Independence”) with the enthusiastic crowd loudly echoing back the “Grito”. The “Grito” was first uttered by Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, a Roman Catholic priest from the small town of Dolores, near Guanajuato on September 16, 1810. It is the event that marks the beginning of the Mexican War of Independence.
“We are so pleased with the large turnout and providing the Hispanic community a cultural event celebrating a very important historic milestone in World history,” said Chris del Rey of DEL REY ENTERTAINMENT, promoter of the event.
One fan, Lizeth D’Cordova, who was lucky enough to win the social media backstage contest, posted on her instagram, “A dream come true!... I got to take a picture with my idol, Gerardo Ortiz!! Thank you del Rey Entertainment and Gerardo Ortiz!!!”
Next year marks the 35th anniversary for these annual multicultural music festival events celebrating both Cinco de Mayo and Fiestas Patrias at Whittier Narrows Regional Park. The dates announced are Sunday, May 4th, 2014 for the Cinco de Mayo music festival and Sunday, September 14th, 2014 for the Fiestas Patrias event.
