HARTFORD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aetna (NYSE: AET), a leading global diversified health care solutions company, and Zurich-based Swiss Life, a leading life and pension insurer, have formed a strategic partnership to offer Aetna’s international and domestic health care benefits and services to Swiss Life’s roster of multinational customers.
Effective September 1, Aetna joins the Swiss Life Network as its partner for the United States. Swiss Life offers comprehensive international and local employee benefit packages to multinational companies through the Swiss Life Network, a global association of 60 insurance companies and business partners operating in 70 countries.
“Swiss Life shares our mission to provide high-quality employee benefits solutions and services tailored to meet the specific needs of companies operating in different countries and cultures,” said Eugene Marks, general manager of the Americas for Aetna International. “Increasingly, businesses are looking for opportunities overseas and workers are becoming more globally mobile. Our collaboration with Swiss Life will allow us to provide a greater number of employees with the comprehensive health care coverage they need no matter where in the world they are.”
Margrit Schmid, CEO of Swiss Life Network, said, “We are pleased to welcome Aetna into our network of insurance partners. As a leader in health care solutions in the U.S. and for the expatriate market, Aetna will enhance our ability to provide multinational companies with the very best in employee benefit packages. Aetna’s strength in health management analytics, technology and wellness solutions also holds great possibilities for us to provide even broader solutions for our customers in the future.
“Swiss Life and Aetna complement each other well,” said Schmid. “Swiss Life is recognized for its risk protection, pension management and strong base in Europe, while Aetna is recognized for its health coverage and strong base in the U.S.”
As Swiss Life’s U.S. network partner, Aetna will offer Swiss Life’s multinational customers a portfolio of insurance products and services to meet the needs of their U.S. workforce, particularly expatriate health coverage for their American workers living and working abroad.
The partnership also opens a new distribution channel for WorldTravelerSM, Aetna’s short-term international health coverage for business travelers. Swiss Life has chosen WorldTravelerSM to be the group business traveler coverage offered to its customers worldwide.
Additionally, Swiss Life’s multinational clients can access Aetna’s domestic employee benefits products and services for their U.S.-based workforces, including group term life, short- and long-term disability, accidental death and dismemberment, dental and medical coverage, plus market-leading health analytics and wellness solutions.
Aetna’s U.S.-based and international health care coverage focuses on empowering people to live healthier lives. The company offers its members a wide variety of health and wellness programs, clinical services and mobile apps to help them take charge of their health and get the most out of their health care benefits.
