PORT TOWNSEND, Wash.--()--Intellicheck Mobilisa, Inc. (NYSE MKT: IDN), a global leader in identity solutions and wireless security systems, has today officially launched barZapp™, an ID-checking mobile app that allows a user’s smartphone to check an ID card. An introductory version is available in the Apple App Store for $1.99, with annual and monthly licenses available on Intellicheck Mobilisa’s website for $19.95 per month. barZapp requires iOS 6.1 or greater, and a version for Android will be available soon.

With barZapp, users can aim their smartphone at the barcode on a driver’s license to instantly read and verify the encoded information and display the results—including the bearer’s name, date of birth, ID expiration and ID number. barZapp incorporates Intellicheck Mobilisa’s patented ID Check software that instantly verifies the authenticity of state and provincial driver licenses and ID cards, as well as military and government ID cards.

barZapp can be utilized by servers at bars, restaurants and other establishments to reduce the chances of receiving fines and penalties when age-restricted products like alcohol, tobacco products, firearm ammunition and movie admissions, for example, are unknowingly sold to underage purchasers. Licenses are granted for individual devices.

“We believe that the introduction of barZapp offers an exciting and powerful new tool to battle the problem of fake IDs. This low-cost solution can not only help to deter underage drinking, but also help protect alcoholic beverage and tobacco product providers from costly fines and potential loss of license from serving underage patrons,” said Nelson Ludlow, Ph.D., President and CEO of Intellicheck Mobilisa. “Several alcohol industry associations have already expressed enthusiasm for the potential of barZapp to address these problems. We are also talking with other industry associations to broaden awareness of barZapp and discuss potential partnerships.”

Dr. Ludlow continued, “With the launch of barZapp, Intellicheck Mobilisa officially launches its focus on apps for smart mobile devices and shifting the company’s business model to Software as a Service (SaaS). SaaS provides better service to customers as they will always have the latest version of our ID card software. A subscription model makes it easier for customers to purchase our product and also provides us a more predictable revenue stream.”

Ms. Kelly Anthony, owner and manager of the Bayview Restaurant and Bar in Port Townsend, WA, said, “The barZapp product is so fast and easy to use. Our wait staff just simply points a cell phone with the barZapp product at a customer’s ID and the software does the rest. It checks if the ID is fake, checks the customer’s age and proves we checked their ID. We love the product!”
