PARIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Marotta Controls announces that it has been awarded a contract by Lockheed Martin to develop a rugged Power Conditioning Unit (PCU) for its state-of-the-art M299 Modernization Program. Marotta’s PCU will be integrated into a multi-platform missile launcher application for rotary wing systems.
Under this agreement Marotta Controls will provide Lockheed Martin with qualification and Engineering, Manufacturing and Development (EMD) units, and will perform testing of critical elements of the system. Production will commence thereafter.
In making the announcement, Michael Leahan, senior vice president of business development and chief sales officer of Marotta Controls, stated, “We are delighted to be chosen to bring our power conditioning technology and experience to this critical program. Winning this contract moves us toward our goal of demonstrating the potential of our high density power supply technology for critical weapon systems, and further enhances our relationship with Lockheed Martin.”
The Marotta Controls PCU is a critical component of the launcher, conditioning and delivering the power that is essential for the AGMS system operation. The PCU is designed to perform in the extreme rigors of the helicopter operational environment. It incorporates a state-of-the-art high efficiency, high power density design that is hardened for high temperatures which protects the system and surrounding components from excessive thermal stress.
“Our electrical and packaging team pulled together a unique design,” said Steve Fox, chief technology officer of Marotta Controls. “Designing from a clean sheet of paper using the latest and most efficient circuit topologies, the team overcame the thermal challenges on this application. The resulting high efficiency solution not only met all of the electrical requirements, but it performed flawlessly at elevated output levels well above the maximum required.”
