Aetna Launches New Smartphone App That Lets Customers in Latin America Find Nearby Doctors, Hospitals

-- Mobile directory lists in-network providers in 30 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean --

HARTFORD, Conn.--()--Aetna’s globally mobile customers now have a new tool to stay healthy when they move or travel to Latin American or the Caribbean. They can use their smartphones to find local doctors, clinics and hospitals in Aetna’s network of providers in nearly every country in the two regions.

This week, Aetna (NYSE: AET), a leading global diversified health care solutions company, launched its Latin America Provider Directory mobile app. With content in Spanish, Portuguese and English, the multi-lingual directory lets Aetna’s international customers find nearby doctors and hospitals, get directions to the facilities, and link to helpful information on what to do before and after their appointment. The app also makes it easy to add appointments to their electronic calendars.

“We know that traveling or moving to a new country is stressful. Needing a doctor on top of adjusting to a new country can be especially stressful,” said Eugene Marks, Aetna International’s general manager of the Americas. “Our goal is to make sure our global customers can easily find health care wherever they might be.”

Aetna’s Latin America Provider Directory is the latest in a series of smartphone apps for its global network of more than 100,000 health care providers outside the United States. Aetna also has directory apps of providers in Europe, the Middle East, Southeast Asia and Shanghai. The free apps are available in both iPhone and Android formats.

Aetna has been a pioneer in developing mobile technology tools to help its customers manage their health. In addition to offering provider directory apps, the company recently introduced a claim submission app for its members outside of the United States. Aetna also has apps that can help its customers understand their symptoms, monitor their exercise and eating habits, and track their claims.

In December 2012, Aetna was honored with an Asia-Pacific EMMA award for the most innovative use of technology in global mobility by the Forum for Expatriate Management.
