FORT WORTH, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--At noon on Thursday, March 7, on what would have been Nancy Lee Bass’s 96th birthday, one of the tower bells of First United Methodist Church of Fort Worth will toll 96 times to honor the many gifts of this Fort Worth matriarch, who died March 1, just one week short of her birthday. The tower bells were given to the church by Perry R. and Nancy Lee Bass in 1993. The memorial service for this beloved Fort Worth philanthropist will be held at 2:00 pm on March 16 in the Nancy Lee and Perry Bass Performance Hall.
In addition to its 96-bell tribute, two floral displays, one in the FUMC sanctuary and one in its narthex this coming Sunday, are given to the Glory of God and in Thanksgiving for the life of Nancy Lee Muse Bass by Anne and Robert Bass and family. “Nancy Lee Bass and her family have contributed so much to our community in so many ways,” says Dr. Tim Bruster, Senior Pastor, First United Methodist of Fort Worth. “Their gifts to our city have done much to make Fort Worth a great place to live, play, work and worship.”
Since joining the church on April 12, 1925, Nancy Lee Bass’s love for First United Methodist Church was expressed in countless ways, culminating with the 1993 gift she and her husband, Perry, gave — the beautiful bells that hang in the church’s east tower. “Because of this generosity, each of our Sunday morning sanctuary worship services begins and ends with the pealing of these bells,” Bruster says, “and throughout the day, every day, they ring the Westminster chimes. This special addition to our community soundscape serves as a constant reminder of this enduring gift. She was a treasure to our community and will be greatly missed.”
