SOS Contents Claims Experts Inventory, Valuate, and Replace More Than 30,000 Items Valued at Nearly $2 Million

Just in time for back to school, and only five months after an EF-4 tornado severely damaged Henryville Junior-Senior High School in Indiana, school officials and the community celebrated the school’s reopening.

Service On Site, a provider of onsite contents loss inventorying, played an important role in the reconstruction project that enabled students to return on time to an almost entirely new, refurnished, resupplied and restocked school. A division of Enservio (, the nation’s leading provider of software and services to property insurers, Service on Site was brought into the project by the school’s insurer, The Hanover Insurance Group, to help expedite the claims process and ensure the school would be ready for the new school year.

“We have a long and proud history of being there when our policyholders need us, and for paying their claims in a fair and timely manner. In this case, we thought it was more important than ever to fast track the claim, so that students could get back to school and their normal routine as the school-year began,” said Allan Robinson, The Hanover’s VP of Property Claims. “SOS and Enservio’s services helped The Hanover to service the claims quickly and efficiently and we are proud of the work that we did in collaboration with the community, SOS and all of the other businesses that pulled together to make this happen.”

Service On Site Methodology Helps Streamline Claims and Improve Accuracy

The Service On Site team was contracted by The Hanover to inventory every room and wing of the school during the first week in the aftermath of the tornado which had completely destroyed the school library and a two story section of the school. Damage to varying degrees occurred to other areas of the school’s facilities, including the bus depot. After completing the inventories, the team worked one on one with teachers to help them reconstruct their classrooms with replacement desks, chairs and school supplies.

Service On Site’s systematic process for handling contents claims from inventory to valuation through to replacement results in faster more accurate claims settlements, particularly for large losses like the Henryville school project. The school library sustained the most extensive damage. Nearly 20,000 items including computers, desks, chairs, furniture and the books themselves were inventoried, assessed for value and replaced in preparation for the return of the students. More than 10,000 additional items damaged or completely destroyed throughout other areas of the school accounted for the remainder of the contents claims that were processed.

“The damage was so severe, many thought it would take years to get the school up and running again, but with the project coordination and dedication of The Hanover’s team on the ground, everyone came together to focus on getting the work done right and in time for the beginning of the school year,” said Bill Stickler, Director of Service On Site. “Our team is honored to have had the opportunity to participate in the project and to work so closely with such a strong community and claims team.”
