Due to Unprecedented Demand, Torani Chicken ‘n Waffles Syrup Will Debut Cyber Monday

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif.--()--What began as a flavorful April Fool’s joke will become reality on Cyber Monday 2012. Torani Chicken ‘n Waffles Syrup will be available starting November 26 for the thousands of fans that requested the unusual flavor. Torani promises. Really.

This unique flavor originated from a viral social media campaign that was ultimately a gag. Torani announced the syrup flavor in late March and the cult comfort-food-flavor garnered rampant media attention. On April 1, thousands of fans were disappointed to learn that the new Torani Chicken ‘n Waffles Syrup was a made-up flavor and that they would not be able to savor the strange new concoction.

“The flavor was so wildly unexpected, we couldn’t help laughing,” said Julie Garlikov, Torani’s VP of Marketing. “Based on the nationwide interest, Torani decided to create this sweet and savory flavor for our dedicated followers,” Garlikov adds.

In late April, the Torani research and development team set out for a day-long flavor safari to Bay Area restaurants like Auntie April’s and Frisco Fried, to find the gold standard of this classic food combination. Senior Scientist Pat Wong was the lead developer on the project. “I thought I had seen it all. I had created an enormous range of products in my career, but this was by far the most unusual and one of the most difficult challenges,” says Wong.

Torani Chicken ‘n Waffles Syrup is a delicate balance of three distinct flavor components: yeasty buttermilk waffle, crispy fried chicken and sweet maple syrup. The unusual flavor works in culinary and beverage recipes ranging from flavored butter to vinaigrette to cocktails. Or just keeping it simple and drizzle it over Golden Malted waffles. Recipes and more are available on Torani’s website.

Torani has a long history of crafting trendy and unexpected flavors from Blood Orange to Bacon. Torani Chicken ‘n Waffles will round out its creative flavor portfolio, for a very limited time. The new item will be available while supplies last on its website, www.torani.com and retail for $6.95 for a 375ml bottle.
