TORONTO--()--Canadians can now take advantage of the only hotel rewards card in Canada that does not charge foreign currency transaction charges. Chase Card Services, a division of JPMorgan Chase & Co. [NYSE: JPM] and Marriott Rewards® announced today the launch of the Marriott Rewards® Premier Visa® Card from Chase, the only hotel rewards card in Canada to not charge foreign currency transaction charges on international purchases. With the Marriott Rewards Premier Visa Card, Canadian consumers do not pay the 2.5 percent foreign currency transaction charge, after the exchange rate conversion is applied, on purchases outside of Canada–in person or online. The card also offers cardholders the ability to earn accelerated Marriott Reward® points on all purchases, accumulate free night stays, and receive automatic Silver Elite Status.

“The Marriott Rewards Premier Visa Card lets Canadians get more out of their travels, whether business trips, family vacations or anything in between,” said Martin Parizeau, chief executive officer, Chase Card Services Canada. “As Chase Canada launches the Marriott Rewards Premier Visa Card without foreign currency transaction charges, cardholders will derive real value on every transaction they make outside of Canada.”

With the Marriott Rewards Premier Visa Card, Canadian cardholders have the ability to earn Marriott Rewards points at an accelerated rate. Cardholders will earn:

  • 5 points per $1 spent at over 3,500 Marriott locations
  • 2 points for every dollar spent on car rentals, dining, and airline tickets purchased directly with an airline
  • 1 point per $1 spent on all other purchases

Marriott Rewards Premier Visa Card from Chase cardholders will receive 30,000 Marriott Rewards bonus points after first purchase, plus one free night after account approval plus one free night every year just for being a cardholder. The annual fee of $120 is waived for the first year.

“For our loyal Marriott Rewards members, the card offers the ability to earn rewards at an accelerated rate and provides access to exclusive benefits that make travel even more enjoyable,” said Ed French, senior vice president, Marriott Rewards. “We are pleased to expand our partnership with Chase to include a valuable product for Canadian consumers.”
