MANHATTAN, Kan.--()--In one weekend alone, Kansas made national headlines with three unusual occurrences: first, the state’s top college basketball team made it to the national championship, second, one lucky local bought a winning lottery ticket for a world-record jackpot, and third, a mysterious crop circle appeared in Kansas as BUTTERFINGER® bars vanished from store shelves.

The occurrences led some to speculate that something bigger was at play, as the recurring theme of hunger, games, and Butterfinger all came together in one weekend. With many pointing to signs of the end of the world, Nestlé USA today announced a nationwide search for the missing Butterfinger bars and is calling upon conspiracy theorists to come forward with any further evidence of what some are calling BARmageddon.

“It’s no coincidence that a mysterious crop circle appeared on the same day that Butterfinger bars disappeared from Moscow to Manhattan,” said Butterfinger spokesperson Tricia Bowles. “A word to the wise: Get your Butterfinger bars now as there’s little time left – BARmageddon is officially here! – If the world’s going to end on December 21, as the Mayan Calendar predicts, our fans need to be ready with their finger on a Butterfinger.”

Yesterday, Nestlé reported that Butterfinger bars had disappeared from four famous cities – Manhattan, Milan, Moscow, and Montezuma – oddly, at the center of America’s heartland. In response to the news and as a challenge to fans to save their Butterfinger bars and the world, the brand today launched its official BARmageddon conspiracy page at Facebook.com/Butterfinger. Here, fans can discover and share clues about the end of the world, tell their stories of Butterfinger disappearances, and help solve the BARmageddon mystery linked to the ancient Mayan Calendar.

Additionally, the most visible clue of BARmageddon was a massive, enigmatic crop circle, or more accurately, “the first ever crop square” appearing in the center of a wheat field outside Manhattan. The crop square is spanning more than an acre in the shape of an abnormally large Quick Response Code (QR Code). Handheld camera footage of the Kansas spectacle also has turned up providing a panoramic view of the crop square in the heart of Manhattan.

Added Bowles: “Butterfinger is calling on its most dedicated fans and conspiracy theorists to help solve the greatest end-of-the-world challenge online. The first person to unravel the BARmageddon mystery and solve the true connection between the Mayans, aliens, and Butterfinger, will be rewarded with treasure fit for the golden ages - $5,000.”
