LONG BEACH, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--SCAN Health Plan has named managed healthcare executive Nancy Monk to the newly created role of chief risk officer, effective immediately. In this position Monk will report to president and CEO Chris Wing as well as to the audit and compliance committee of the SCAN board of directors. She will be responsible for compliance, internal audit and risk management for the not-for-profit health plan.

Before joining SCAN, Monk served as senior vice president of regulatory and public affairs for UnitedHealthcare where she led the regulatory and compliance activities in 13 western states. Immediately prior Monk was vice president of state government affairs for PacifiCare Health Systems where she was accountable for the company’s state government relations and compliance programs. She also previously served as assistant vice president of government relations for National Medical Enterprises (now Tenet Healthcare).
Monk holds a master’s degree in public health as well as an MBA, both from the University of California, Los Angeles. She earned her bachelor’s degree at Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, MA. Monk is a board member of the Institute for Health Care Advancement and a member/mentor volunteer for the UCLA School of Public Health, Health Policy and Planning Alumni Association.
