Chicago Woman Receives Keys to Her $200,000 Taylor Morrison Dream Home

Lauren McCaleb’s 43 entries land her a dream home in Arizona

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.--()--Home for the holidays has a new meaning for Lauren McCaleb of Chicago. She’ll be spending the holidays this year in her brand new, $200,000 dream home in Arizona – her reward for winning the 2011 Taylor Morrison Dream Home Giveaway.

McCaleb beat out more than 1.1 million entries to claim her dream home, built for her in Taylor Morrison’s Adora Trails community in Gilbert, Ariz.

With her family watching, McCaleb was handed the keys to her dream home by Taylor Morrison Arizona representatives during a special ribbon cutting on Dec. 9.

“It’s hard to believe that I’ve actually won,” said McCaleb, who learned that she had won the contest last summer. “But having the keys in my hand and the home in front of me is starting to make it sink in.”

McCaleb said she and her husband, Richard, initially couldn’t believe her good fortune, which was delivered via voice mail on her home phone over the summer. The mother of two and grandmother of four listened to the message at least 10 times in her estimation before she believed the news.

After an exhaustive search, the couple chose the Phoenix metropolitan area to have their home built, weighing communities in Austin, Texas and Sarasota, Florida before making their decision.

“It was a difficult choice to make,” she said. “Taylor Morrison has so many great places to choose from that it was actually hard to pick.”

Since it first started in 2008, the Taylor Morrison Dream Home Giveaway contest has been a runaway success, with almost $1 million worth of homes given away in the process. Sacramento single mother Jennifer Draa won in 2008. Draa was followed by Arizona wife and mother Kristin Pierce in 2009 and an Arizona father, Michael Bernardo, in 2010. All of those winners chose to have homes built in their hometowns, while McCaleb is thinking ahead to retirement for her and her husband.

“Our plan is to retire to Arizona,” she said. “This home certainly makes that possible.”

Sheryl Palmer, CEO and President of Taylor Morrison, said the entire company thrives on delivering homes that fit the needs of its customers and the Dream Home Giveaway winner is no exception.

“We love seeing the sheer joy our winners get from receiving the keys to their brand new home,” she said. “It’s definitely a thrill for them and certainly is an exciting experience for our team as well.”

This is the fourth year for the Taylor Morrison Dream Home Giveaway, inspired by the Innoventions Dream Home located at the Disneyland® Resort in Anaheim, Calif., which Taylor Morrison built in a partnership with Disneyland, Microsoft and HP.
