American Academy of Pediatrics Launches iPad App for Mobile Access to AAP eBookstore

Impelsys develops downloadable app that provides iPad users with instant online access to AAP’s entire eBook collection

NEW YORK--()--The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), a 62,000-member organization dedicated to the health of children, today announced the debut of an app for the Apple iPad that provides instant mobile access to the entire AAP eBook collection.

The AAP eBookstore app for the iPad can be downloaded from Apple’s App Store by clicking here http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/aap-ebooks/id448911068?mt=8.

The app was custom-developed for the iPad by Impelsys, AAP’s eBooks technology partner and a global leader in providing electronic content delivery solutions.

“Our partnership with Impelsys has produced another innovation for the professionals and researchers who rely on AAP to provide them with robust pediatric resources in both print and digital formats,” said Kim FitzSimmons, Sr. Manager of Digital Content and Licensing of the AAP. “According to a 2010 survey of pediatricians, 23% already had an iPad and 60% owned iPhones, numbers that are surely even higher by now. The new AAP app for the iPad is a simple and quick way to access our content on one of the fastest-growing mobile platforms in the world.”

The AAP eBooks provides libraries, medical schools, hospitals and pediatric offices with instant electronic access to more than 100 renowned AAP publications, including full-text, visuals, data tables and clinical recommendations. With AAP eBooks, users can purchase and download any content from the entire collection of AAP digital titles like Pediatric Clinical Practice Guidelines & Policies, Bright Futures, Pediatric Nutrition Handbook, Red Book Atlas, and Caring For Your Baby And Young Child: Birth To Age 5.

“This new app provides iPad users with one-click access to AAP’s entire eBook collection, which includes updated information about pediatric care solutions and expert clinical recommendations,” said Sameer Shariff, chief executive officer of Impelsys. “This is the latest step in our partnership with AAP as we work with them to extend their digital publishing strategy toward a model where AAP’s rich professional content can be accessed on-demand from any location in the world and on any device.”
