KIRKLAND, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--PIRQ, a deal app and service that integrates Microsoft Tag into a 100% smart phone solution to offer a new, "2.0" approach to daily deals, announced today that its much-anticipated app is available in the App Store for iPhone. Pirq meets the needs of the skyrocketing number of consumers who use their smart phones to make retail purchases on the go.
“By 2015 consumers will spend about $119 billion on goods and services bought via their mobile phones,” said James Sun, CEO of Pirq. “Seventy percent of iPhone owners use apps or a web browser to help them while shopping in-store, and 41% are making purchases directly from their phones. Pirq shifts the way we discover and get deals by letting our smart phones help us find instant, relevant savings wherever we are - in a way that benefits both consumers and businesses.”
Initially offering real-time discounts at 130 dining businesses, Pirq delivers quality deals of 20-50% off the total bill for consumers, based on location. Pirq is also the antidote to recurring daily deal problems such as pre-payment for coupons that go unused, overwhelming deal redemptions during peak hours, and fake coupons that ultimately hurt businesses. “This is not a cheap, random, one-time daily deal. With Pirq, consumers will save again and again. Businesses will see those customers again and again,” said Sun.
Available first for the iPhone, with an Android app soon to follow, Pirq incorporates a proven, geo-location platform and is the first company in the world to fully integrate Microsoft Tag into an app that unlocks consumer discounts.
“Tag technology offers a rich, interactive mobile experience that can be used in an endless number of ways,” said Bill McQuain, director of Tag product management at Microsoft Corp. “We’re excited that Pirq is using Tag as an integral part of its daily deal service to offer customers such excellent deals at local businesses.”
Pirq is simple:
- Consumers download the app
- The app populates their smart phones with the deals near their current location (or where they’re headed)
- Consumers click COMMIT, walk in the door, then click REDEEM to scan a Microsoft Tag in the business
- The deal is authenticated on the spot with no pre-payment
- Consumers get 20-50% off the total when the bill comes (and can look forward to another deal in the future)
Pirq gives business owners more promotional campaign control in a 100% yield management solution that prevents too many deals from being redeemed during peak business hours. More than 130 select Seattle and Eastside dining locations are currently offering quality discounts through Pirq, including O’Asian in Seattle, Grand Cru in Bellevue and 13 Caffé Ladro locations throughout the area.
Several businesses signed up for Pirq based on past experience with other daily deals. “With other daily deal services, customers came for the deal, and we did not see most of them ever again,” said Bok Oh, owner of Utopia, a specialty yogurt shop in Seattle. “People tried to print multiple copies and redeem them, and the paperwork was a nightmare. I’m excited to use a solution that is good for me and my customers.”
Pirq is already expanding into the San Francisco Bay Area with plans for at least ten more cities over the next 12-18 months.
Pirq is the antidote to the “one-time daily deal” maze and craze, solving problems for both businesses and consumers in a deal app and service delivered via smart phones. Pirq brings together the resources of two experienced and respected companies: Passport Unlimited, a 25-year veteran of providing upscale dining and lifestyle perks to more than 800,000 Fortune 500 professionals, and GeoPage, a location-based platform company, which built a proprietary, interactive web and mobile application platform.
