BATON ROUGE, La.--()--Ecological Restoration Services, L.L.C., (ERS), a subsidiary of Resource Environmental Solutions, L.L.C. (RES), has successfully completed restorative planting projects along the Louisiana Gulf Coast. ERS won competitive bids from the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources to grow, store, deliver and install native Louisiana vegetation species to enable and ensure coastal protection following construction of protective berms along the coast at East Grand Terre and at Chaland Headlands.

In Louisiana’s Barataria Basin, a barrier island named East Grand Terre has been affected by repeated wave action and eroded by successive hurricanes. ERS delivered restorative plantings to prevent site erosion and re-establish barrier island habitats. Restorative vegetation plantings in beach and dune areas prevent breaching and maintain shoreline integrity. Thousands of native Louisiana species plugs, including smooth cordgrass, bitter panicum, marsh hay, bluestem and sea oats, were planted along the constructed berm as part of this project.

The Chaland Headland Restoration Project, Plaquemines Parish, Louisiana, was previously named one of America’s top restored beaches by the American Shore and Beach Preservation Association. Ongoing management of the constructed and restored berm and beach areas include installation of protective sand fencing and installation of native species to maintain stability of the rehabilitated area. ERS’ project was to deliver and install the sand fence and conduct restorative planting of bitter panicum plugs in the project area.

Both ERS projects were completed, inspected and approved as successful projects by the State of Louisiana’s Department of Natural Resources. ERS’ restoration activities include site evaluation and preparation, hydrology restoration, plant identification, vegetative supply and plantings, and pre/post-planting maintenance such as noxious and invasive species control.

“While ERS’ restorative planting operations have historically taken place on properties owned and operated by RES and its subsidiary companies, we are proud to have delivered successful projects for commercial and government clients, executed in compliance with regulations set forth by various State and Federal regulatory agencies,” said Elliott Bouillion, RES CEO.
