DENVER--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Comcast Media Center has taken the wraps off a newly rebuilt high-tech origination and playout facility to handle all of iN DEMAND’s live sports and Pay-Per-View (PPV) content. iN DEMAND L.L.C., a world leader in the distribution and management of transactional and subscription entertainment, uses the facility to offer a wide range of PPV and digital out-of-market sports subscription television programming, including first-run movies, out-of-market major sports league packages, championship sports events and concerts.
iN DEMAND’s new facility at the CMC uses the latest technology to support iN DEMAND’s expanding requirements for HD television programming standards and consolidates the operational processes for sports and PPV programming into one master control operation. Designed to deliver programming in the highest quality video, the new control room also provides immediate flexibility for adding on-screen features, such as sports statistics, event replays, and personalized messaging concerning rain delays or other developments that may affect programming from live event venues.
“The CMC has played an integral role in supporting iN DEMAND’s operations over the past twelve years,” said John Vartanian, iN DEMAND’s Chief Technology Officer. “With CMC as our partner, we are committed to guaranteeing our affiliates the most advanced technology available and a completely customized, reliable, state-of-the-art facility. This new upgrade enables us to continue to deliver a high volume of live sports and entertainment programming to our customers with the highest technical quality.”
As part of a recently renewed content services agreement, the CMC provides iN DEMAND with an end-to-end content management solution for its channels, including multi-channel network origination, traffic management, live sports event integration, and transmission. Each year, the CMC supports iN DEMAND’s delivery of nearly 7,000 live sports feeds, representing more than 20,000 hours of sports package content and PPV events.
“iN DEMAND’s new origination environment with the CMC reflect the outstanding collaborative work conducted over the years by our engineering and network teams, which have been responsible for delivering thousands of hours of live sports and movies to cable affiliates,” said Richard Buchanan, Vice President and General Manager, Content Services for Comcast Media Center.
For nearly 20 years, the CMC has been an industry-leading provider of content services across multiple platforms for customers worldwide. Live sports are one of the CMC’s specialties. The CMC currently originates more than 20,000 HD, SD, and 3D live and recorded events a year for its industry customers, including out-of-market pay-per-view sports packages, and recently managed more than 100 events in a single 24-hour period. Its live event capabilities include live commercial insertion, client graphic creation and manipulation, branding, facilitation between remote sites, one-on-one coverage and monitoring, and time-delayed and/or immediate replay of live media.
