RICHMOND, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Owens & Minor, Inc. (NYSE:OMI) announced at its Annual Shareholders’ Meeting on April 29, 2011, that the company’s shareholders have elected twelve directors, including two newly elected members who will take the seats of two retiring directors, to serve a one-year term.
The Owens & Minor shareholders voted to elect Lemuel E. Lewis, 64, to serve on the board of directors. Lewis is president of LocalWeather.com, a web-based, privately held media company he founded in 2008. He served as executive vice president and chief financial officer of Landmark Communications, Inc., a privately held media and broadcasting company, from 2000 to 2006. Lewis was appointed to the board of the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond in 2004, where he served as deputy chairman from 2007 to 2008, chairman of the audit committee from 2005 to 2008, and chairman from 2009 until his retirement in 2010. He currently serves on the boards of Markel Corporation and Dollar Tree, Inc.
The Owens & Minor shareholders also elected John W. Gerdelman, 58, to serve on the board of directors. Gerdelman, who was originally appointed to the company’s board in October 2010, currently serves as president of Long Lines Limited, a telecommunications provider serving business and residential customers in Northwest Iowa. Before joining Long Lines, Gerdelman was executive chairman and co-founder of Intelliden Corporation, a network solutions provider acquired by IBM in 2010. Gerdelman served in a number of leadership positions for other telecommunications companies, including 15 years with MCI Communications Corporation. He currently serves on the boards of directors of Brocade Communications Systems, Inc., Sycamore Networks, Inc. and Proxim Wireless Corporation. Gerdelman also serves on the board of visitors of the College of William and Mary.
At the Annual Shareholders’ Meeting, Owens & Minor also gratefully acknowledged the service and dedication of two retiring board members: John T. Crotty, 73, who served on the Owens & Minor board for 12 years; and James E. Ukrop, 73, who served the company as a board member for 24 years.
