Gulf Coast Veterinary Surgery, Orthopedics and Neurology Announces Expansion of Neurology Practice

Center Features Houston’s Most Powerful MRI in Veterinary Use

HOUSTON--()--Gulf Coast Veterinary Surgery, Orthopedics and Neurology, one of the nation’s preeminent veterinary referral centers, is proud to announce its expansion with the April 18, 2011 opening of Gulf Coast Veterinary Neurology & Neurosurgery (GCVNN). Located at 3800 Southwest Freeway, just three miles east of the current practice, the 6,100 square-foot state-of-the-art neurosurgical facility is designed to improve the quality and continuity of patient care.

The center boasts advanced diagnostic imaging, including an on-site multislice CT and the city’s most powerful MRI dedicated to veterinary use — a 1.5 Tesla magnet — enabling a more accurate, expeditious and comprehensive study. This not only allows for minimally invasive diagnostics and targeted therapies, but also drastically reduces patient anesthesia and recovery time.

Additionally, the neurosurgical team has also grown and is currently the largest and most experienced in Texas. “With the addition of a third board-certified neurologist, we can be much more available and responsive to our referring veterinarians. Our new magnet gives us much greater images in less than half the time, and operating rooms are always available,” said Dr. Randall Longshore, one of GCVNN’s three neurologists. The GCVNN team of neurologists, neurosurgeons and certified MRI technician share an average of 18 years of experience each.

In order to accommodate the increased number of patients the center is able to treat, GCVNN now provides:

  • After hours emergency availability and phone consultation to referring veterinarians
  • Seven-day-a-week access to emergency diagnostic testing and neurosurgery
  • Extended weekend emergency care
  • Dedicated neurosurgical operating rooms allowing for an expedited admission-to-surgery process for emergency patients

The neurology and neurosurgery team will continue working closely with the other specialists, physical therapist and surgeons at the original 1111 West Loop South facility, as well as with the pet’s primary care veterinarian, in order to ensure optimum, balanced and complete care.
