AccessData Releases Mobile Phone Examiner Plus 4.2 with Physical Imaging Support for iPhone®, iPad® and iPod Touch® Devices

The First and Only Mobile Phone Forensics Solution to Deliver this Level of Support for Apple® Mobile Devices

LINDON, Utah--()--Today, AccessData announced the release of "Mobile Phone Examiner Plus” ("MPE +") 4.2, a stand-alone cell phone forensics software solution that also integrates seamlessly with the industry-standard computer forensics technology, Forensic Toolkit® (FTK®). This is a landmark release for AccessData, as MPE+ is now the first and only mobile forensics solution to enable forensic examiners to perform physical imaging of the iPad. In addition to physical support for the iPad, MPE+ also provides physical support for iPhone® and iPod Touch® devices. “MPE+ gives forensics examiners a huge advantage, because the solution not only supports more than 2500 mobile phones, but delivers unsurpassed support for smart devices, such as iPhone, iPad, Blackberry® and Android® products, which are now a primary concern among computer forensics professionals,” stated Lee Reiber, Director of Mobile Forensics at AccessData Group.

MPE+ is available as a software-only solution for the lab, or on a preconfigured Field Tablet for onsite phone acquisitions. The tablet allows examiners to preview and acquire all data available on supported devices, including the embedded file systems. Having this information immediately available for on-scene triage will save time for the examiner back at the lab. According to Reiber, because FTK is used by a majority of computer forensics examiners worldwide, it makes sense to use a product for mobile devices that complements the already proven power of FTK. Using MPE+, examiners can seamlessly correlate phone evidence with computer evidence within FTK, and they can take advantage of the advanced reporting capabilities in FTK to detail phone data — call history, contacts, messages, photos, voice recordings, video files, calendar, tasks, notes and more.

“Examiners using MPE+ will appreciate the solution’s easy-to-use interface and the ability to extract and immediately view data. So now, first responders, with little FTK or forensic training can conduct extractions without compromising the integrity of the evidence,” commented Reiber.

Enhancements in Mobile Phone Examiner Plus 4.2 include the following:

  • Larger buttons, easier to understand icons, and a customizable layout of interface tabs / panes
  • Support for physical image acquisition of iPhone® (both CDMA and GSM), iPad® and iPod Touch®
  • Support for logical viewing and image acquisition of iPhone®, iPad®, iPod Touch®, Android™, Windows Mobile® and Blackberry® devices to include device file systems
  • Logical device acquisition can now retrieve the serial number of the device for all supported Apple devices
