LOUISVILLE, Ky.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Whether helping its Medicare members “age in place,” creating a video game that gets kids off the couch and on the playground, or designing a prescription-drug plan that helps people save money on their health care, innovation is the key ingredient to making these programs succeed for Humana members.
Today, Humana Inc. (NYSE: HUM) is celebrating the grand opening of a new Innovation Center at the company’s headquarters in Louisville, Ky., where Humana is displaying its latest innovations, designing programs and products of the future, and creating ways to help people achieve lifelong well-being.
“Throughout Humana’s nearly 50 years, our history is highlighted by the innovations that have helped people live better, healthier lives,” said Mike McCallister, Humana’s chairman of the board and chief executive officer. “We’re excited today to imagine the possibilities for the next 50 years as we inaugurate this state-of-the-art innovation hub.”
At one time the nation’s largest nursing-home operator, and later the largest U.S. hospital company, Humana is now one of the country’s largest health-benefits enterprises. During the past half-century Humana has distinguished itself for its breakthroughs in consumer-focused innovation.
“We innovate in all that we do at Humana. Still, it’s critical to bring together our innovations in one place and create a working laboratory where Humana associates feel inspired to develop their best ideas,” said Raja Rajamannar, Humana’s chief innovation and marketing officer. “In our new Innovation Center, we have succeeded at creating a space unlike any other that will inspire people to create ways to help people achieve lifelong well-being.”
From the Innovation Center’s “Immersion Room,” which features video technology designed to showcase innovations in a memorable way, to a series of 12 displays where people can learn, play and explore the latest in health and health-benefits innovation, Humana has created a workspace where imagination can thrive.
“We care passionately at Humana about understanding people and their needs,” Rajamannar said. “That’s what we will do here in our new Innovation Center. The center is intended to positively impact the lives of our Humana members, associates and customers. It’s a place to learn, create and transform how people get and stay healthy.”
At a grand opening event this morning, McCallister spoke about Humana’s history of innovation – and how it relates to the opening of this new Innovation Center. Rajamannar described for visitors how the new center works, and the role it will play in the months and years ahead as Humana associates begin work on the next generation of people-focused innovations.
