Reminder for Tuesday, Aug. 24: Southern California Edison to Unveil New Smart Energy Center

--()--Southern California Edison:

WHAT:

Southern California Edison (SCE) will hold a grand opening event for an innovative exhibit featuring the latest tools and technologies that are helping to create a cleaner, smarter and more reliable electric grid.

The Smart Energy Experience is one of the first exhibits in the country to provide a live demonstration of how smart appliances work with a smart meter by communicating over a home area network. The center is designed to resemble a typical Southern California home, with displays that provide a glimpse into the future of energy distribution and consumption. Demonstrations include the future of power delivery via smart grid technologies, energy efficient devices and smart appliances, as well as plug-in electric vehicles.

SCE will highlight some of the features at the event, including the ability to monitor real-time fluctuations in electricity usage and cost as various appliances are turned on or off. Attendees also will learn how new smart grid technology will reduce the length and number of customers affected by power outages in the future by observing the impact of a simulated lightning strike and subsequent restoration of power.
