American Frozen Food Institute Applauds House Committee’s Approval of Child Nutrition Reauthorization Act

MCLEAN, Va.--()--American Frozen Food Institute (AFFI) President and CEO Kraig R. Naasz issued the following statement applauding the House Education and Labor Committee for approving the Improving Nutrition for America’s Children Act.

“This legislation reauthorizing federal childhood nutrition programs is important to the health and well-being of America’s children. AFFI commends the committee’s decision to strengthen the bill by approving an amendment offered by Representatives David Wu (D-Ore.) and Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-Wash.) to include frozen fruits in the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Snack Program.

“At no additional cost to the taxpayer, the Wu-Rodgers amendment expands the snack program by enabling school dietitians to provide healthy, affordable frozen fruit. Thanks to Reps. Wu and Rodgers, schools can ease the pressure on strained budgets and ensure children have year-round access to fruits that provide the nutrition growing bodies need.

“AFFI appreciates the committee’s recognition of the nutritional value of frozen fruits and the role they can play in providing a healthier diet for America’s youth.

“We applaud the committee’s approval of the Improving Nutrition for America’s Children Act and urge Congress to swiftly approve the bill.”
