Who Likes Onions? New Survey Shows 87 Percent of Adults Say They Like Onions in the Foods They Cook or Eat – 65 Percent Agree They “Love Crispy Onions”

Seneca Farms Launches New, All-Natural, No Trans Fat, Healthier Onion Alternative to Perk Up Family Meals

“Accessorize Burgers” for Summer BBQ’s

YAKIMA, Wash.--()--As the weather warms and people start planning for their summer BBQ’s, according to a new Harris Interactive survey, Americans want their everyday meals to be more creative – and surprisingly with onions. In fact, 87 percent say they like to use onions in foods they cook or eat and 65 percent agree they love crispy onions. To satisfy these cravings, Seneca Farms is launching an all-natural, healthier, sweet tasting onion sensation called Crisp Onions. These crispy onions are like nothing on the market today. They’re authentic, made from real fresh onions, crisped using a vacuum process with canola and sunflower oil, and then lightly salted with sea salt – that’s it, no unnecessary ingredients. This is the next generation crispy onion, unlike the breaded ones you remember from Grandma’s green bean casseroles.

The survey also showed that more than three in four adults, or 78 percent, think adding crispy onions as a topping or ingredient could make foods or recipes more flavorful or exciting – a great way to add crunch and fun to perk up a family’s meal. Also, moms love the new, easy, convenient way to liven up old standards. In fact, 64 percent, nearly two in three of all adults agree that they would cook more often if they could lessen prep time without sacrificing freshness and nutrition. Further, burgers were found to be by far the #1 food that could be jazzed up by adding crispy onions (58% of adults) with lettuce salads coming in second. Crispy onions were also shown to be a welcome addition to wraps, soups, pizzas and veggies.

“Our goal is to help moms prepare quick and easy meals that are natural, healthy and fun,” said Kathy Sheldon, Vice President of Category Management, Seneca Farms. “This is an easier, healthier way to dress up meals and help Mom, or Dad, make burgers, salads, sandwiches, soups and pizza taste like never before.”

Harris Interactive fielded the Onion study on behalf of Seneca Farms from April 12-April 14 via the QuickQuery online omnibus service, among 2,729 adults ages 18+.

Seneca Farms is North America's largest manufacturer of processed fruits and vegetables, with annual revenues of more than a billion dollars. In 1994, Seneca created the Seneca Snack Company, www.senecasnacks.com; leveraging their expertise in the vegetable and fruit arena to create healthy-alternative snacks, such as Apple Chips, Sweet Potato Chips, Spud Crunch, and Crisp Onions.
