BioImagene and Visuvi Announce First Visual Search for Digital Pathology

PathSearch™ powers BioImagene digital pathology solutions – first presented at BioImagene Booth 802 at the USCAP Annual Meeting in Boston, March 7 – 13, 2009.

CUPERTINO, Calif. & REDWOOD CITY, Calif.--()--BioImagene, the leading provider of innovative digital pathology systems, and Visuvi Inc., a leader in visual search solutions, today announced PathSearch™ the first visual search product for digital pathology. PathSearch enables visual search for PathXchange™ community pathology portal and Virtuoso end-to-end digital pathology solutions. This partnership will allow pathologists, for the first time, to search with images without the need for detours via meta-data, potentially incorrect mark-ups and tags.

“We are excited to add PathSearch to our digital pathology technology”, said Dr. Ajit Singh, CEO, BioImagene, “BioImagene’s partnership with Visuvi will change the way pathologists search for digital images.”

“PathSearch has the visual search technologies powerful enough for the demanding field of digital pathology” said Christopher Boone, President and CEO of Visuvi. “Our collaboration and partnership with BioImagene is a powerful endorsement. Visuvi will continue to develop advanced solutions in medical imaging and other vertical domains.”

"PathSearch will greatly enhance current digital pathology especially in quantitative and qualitative analysis, leading to timely and accurate decision making to help direct therapy", said Dr. Bonnie Balzer, an anatomic pathologist in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. "Microscopic images are extremely complex as they contain hundreds of different visual elements. Visuvi's powerful visual search capabilities will overcome a major obstacle that has held back digital imaging in pathology, allowing for cost reduction and improved patient care."

The enormous amount of information in the large digital pathology image files requires commanding search technology. Meta-data search can only provide very limited information. Visual analysis and search of the actual image is essential for clinical analysis and research.

PathXchange is a pathology portal that facilitates the exchange of information about pathology cases and is designed for pathologists to stay connected with their professional network, keep their professional knowledge current, and contribute to advancement of the global pathology community. Virtuoso is a role-based digital pathology system that enables pathologists, histo-technologists, lab administrators and clinicians to scan glass slides and then perform a wide range of functions – including view, manage, manipulate, analyze, report and collaborate – in the digital form.

Visitors can view a demonstration of BioImagene’s PathXchange portal, Vituoso digital pathology solution and Visuvi’s PathSearch™ technology at BioImagene booth #802 at the USCAP Annual Meeting in Boston March 7 -13, 2009.
