PHOENIX--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Veryant, the COBOL and Java technology innovator, today said that HAY Computing Service selected the isCOBOL Application Platform Suite (APS) to develop and deploy its ERP software application. HAY selected isCOBOL APS because it protects the company’s COBOL applications, offers flexible Java-based capabilities, and provided a fast, easy transition from the previous platform.
“Moving to isCOBOL opens up new windows of opportunity for our business,” said Rolf Ahlrichs, HAY Computing. “We can now provide our software on any platform that supports the Java Runtime Environment.”
Veryant’s isCOBOL technology protects and extends valuable enterprise application assets by blending the optimized, business-oriented nature of COBOL with the openness, portability, and power of the Java platform, without requiring businesses to retrain staff or rewrite code.
HAY Computing’s HAYWaWi ERP package has been successfully serving businesses for years. However, because it was initially developed on ACUCOBOL-GT, HAY Computing had to limit HAYWaWi to Windows-based clients.
HAY Computing evaluated COBOL alternatives from Micro Focus, Liant, and Fujitsu, but these failed to provide a smooth transition. When EasiRun, a certified Veryant distributor, proposed isCOBOL APS, HAY Computing was initially impressed with the compatibility between ACUCOBOL-GT and isCOBOL APS. Once EasiRun demonstrated how quickly HAY Computing could transition from ACUCOBOL-GT, the company decided to move to isCOBOL.
Working with EasiRun, HAY Computing moved HAYWaWi (2500 COBOL programs accessing ISAM data) to the isCOBOL platform in less than five months. The isMIGRATE utility, a tool provided with the isCOBOL Development System, greatly simplified the transition of HAY Computing’s VISION files to isCOBOL ISAM Server.
“A smooth transition path was paramount in our decision to move to isCOBOL APS,” noted Joerg Gothmann, HAY Computing.
HAY Computing can now move between Windows and LINUX platforms with ease and deliver additional operating systems distribution options because of the portability delivered by isCOBOL APS’ Java deployment model.
Following the successful transition of the ERP software, HAY Computing plans to move its finance accounting package to isCOBOL APS as well.
