CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Camping World/FreedomRoads, America’s largest retailer of Recreational Vehicles and RV outdoor supplies and accessories, today announced that the company’s Chairman and CEO Marcus Lemonis has been named by RV Business Magazine as their 2007 Newsmaker of The Year.
The magazine, regarded as the industry leader, recognized Lemonis, 34, for having “more impact on this industry than any single individual or company in recent memory as an agent of change and retail consolidation.” In addition to his impact on the industry, RV Business also cited Lemonis for driving the company’s rapid growth toward its annual sales of $1.65 billion, the acquisition of a long list of RV dealerships and the explosion of Camping World stores throughout the country as key factors in their decision. The also pointed to Camping World’s growing brand recognition through major, high visibility NASCAR sponsorships.
Marcus Lemonis commented, “Being named RV Business 2007 Newsmaker of The Year is a great honor as there are scores of very dynamic people in the RV industry. Many of them are our own associates within the company who I’d like to recognize for making this company what it has become. As I said in the interview with RV Business, our company succeeds based on their talents and abilities and our future expansion will depend on finding more good people.”
Discussing the company’s strategy, RV Business wrote that, “Lemonis’ management team melds Camping World Inc.’s aftermarket accessories stores and FreedomRoads LLC’s retail RV sales outlets into one conjoined entity through a new concept that some have likened to a Bass Pro Shop-style approach.” In addition to the national RV dealer network, today there are some 80 Camping World Stores with plans to have 100 retail outlets by 2008. Since 2006 Lemonis has been leading the integration of the Camping World RV accessory stores with FreedomRoads RV retail dealerships toward the national brand Camping World RV Sales.
The brisk expansion of Camping World/FreedomRoads is well timed to respond to growing consumer demand as the outlook for the RV and RV supplies and accessories market burgeons, topping lists of US growth industries. A recent study by the University of Michigan’s Survey Research Center found that one in 12 U.S. vehicle-owning households now own an RV. There are now 7.9 million households in the U.S. with a RV. This figure indicates a 58 percent rise in RV ownership since 1980. This study also anticipates similar growth in the future, thus providing the catalyst for additional stores across the country.
