NEW YORK--()--Ten New York City chefs have been honored as Sterling Silver Emerging® Tastemakers of 2006 by Sterling Silver® Premium Meats and Food Arts magazine.

Chefs were selected based on their skill, talent and creativity, as well as their ability to capture the attention and praise of their peers and several of New Yorks demanding food critics.

We believe its important that the new generation of chefs be recognized for their talents and contributions to the food world, said Michael Batterberry, founder, editor-in-chief and publisher of Food Arts magazine, the influential award-winning publication for the restaurant and hotel trades. Its an integral part of our editorial focus at Food Arts.

While weve supported the culinary community via scholarships and education programs for years, were excited to have created this program as a way to highlight and support established chefs, said Kent Harrison, senior brand manager for Cargill, the parent company of Sterling Silver brand meats.

Winners of the 2006 Sterling Silver Emerging Tastemaker Awards are: April Bloomfield of The Spotted Pig; David Chang, Momofuku; Iacopo Falai, Falai; Brad Farmerie, Public; Polo Dobkin and Cal Elliott, co-chefs at both Dressler and DuMont; Gypsy Gifford, Rain; Alexandra Guarnaschelli, Butter; Aaron Sanchez, of Centrico and Paladar and Alex Urena, of Urena.

These chefs are already making their mark in New York, but we predict that in the years to come many of these talented individuals will be influencing what, where and how we dine out on a national level, noted Harrison.

Chefs were identified by Food Arts and recognized by Sterling Silver at a banquet Oct. 8, 2006 at OLiVES New York, Union Square. The banquet featured a menu prepared especially by Executive Chef Michael Crain and entertainment by award-winning violinist Stefan Milenkovich.

Special thanks to the sponsors of the event TAU Sparkling and Still water, and Green Tree Packing Company.
