U.S. Bank and U.S. Coast Guard win SAS(R) Enterprise Intelligence Award; Expanding Customer and Organizational Intelligence with SAS

SAN FRANCISCO--()--March 27, 2006--SAS, the leader in business intelligence, today presented U.S. Bank and the U.S. Coast Guard Integrated Deepwater System Program with the SAS(R) Enterprise Intelligence Award at this year's SAS Users Group International (SUGI) meeting in San Francisco. SAS presents this award to organizations that have demonstrated productivity gains, cost or time savings, or achievement of organization or business goals through the use of SAS software.

Winning the award for the commercial sector, U.S. Bank uses the SAS Marketing Automation and SAS Interaction Management components of SAS Customer Intelligence to define contact strategies for customers with a consistent message across all touch points, including call centers, branch sales and service personnel, and direct mail - personalizing inbound and outbound interactions at every opportunity. The solution also enables U.S. Bank to analyze customer behavior over time and act on significant changes immediately by using analytically based event triggers to help accelerate sales opportunities and salvage relationships at risk. "A change in behavior can be like a customer raising her hand to say, 'Hey, I have a new need,' " says Richard Martino, U.S. Bank's senior vice president of market and research. "That's when customers really need to hear from a banker."

"The investment we're making in expanding our customer insight platform will have a significant payback over the next five years," Martino says. "And the return to our shareholders will be impressive because the investment is very reasonable for an institution of our size and complexity." U.S. Bank is the first financial institution to win this award.

The U.S. Coast Guard, recipient of the award for the government sector, uses SAS Strategic Performance Management and business intelligence solutions for its Integrated Deepwater System (IDS), a critical multiyear, multibillion-dollar program to modernize and replace the Coast Guard's aging ships and aircraft, and improve command, control and logistics systems. As the largest recapitalization effort in the history of the Coast Guard, the Deepwater Program was developed to guarantee the nation's maritime homeland security. Its aim is to maximize the warning, detection and response time available to U.S. Department of Homeland Security decision makers and to provide the necessary capabilities for them to execute those decisions. Savings from these SAS solutions has approached thousands of man-hours per year in data collection and report generation.

Rear Adm. Patrick M. Stillman, the program executive officer for the Integrated Deepwater System Program, noted, "We are pleased to partner with SAS as we implement the Deepwater Program. It is critical to our stakeholders that we measure our performance and delivery of services in terms of accountability to the American public as it relates to this endeavor."

Pearl River Resort received an honorable mention at the event. Using SAS Enterprise BI Server, SAS Marketing Automation and SAS Financial Management, commercial sector customer Pearl River Resort targets specific offers and promotions to the resort's most valued guests, identifies new markets, provides rapid financial consolidation, reduces costs, and increases the level of guest satisfaction. With these SAS solutions, Pearl River Resort now has the ability to effectively determine who is visiting, where they are visiting from, and target their marketing efforts to guests who represent the highest potential value through their activities.
