"Having been an investor in Genstar I, II, III, and now Genstar IV, TD Capital has a long history with Genstar," said John Greenwood, a managing director of TD Capital. "We believe they are one of the best middle-market firms in the private equity business, and we are thrilled to be part of their new fund."
Genstar IV will continue Genstar's research-based investment approach, including the firm's focus on investing in selected segments of the life sciences, business services, and industrial technology sectors. To proactively identify acquisition targets in these sectors, Genstar's principals leverage their extensive domain knowledge and network of relationships. Principals Jean-Pierre L. Conte, Robert J. Weltman, Richard F. Hoskins, and M. Scott Milius are retaining primary responsibility for investing and managing Genstar IV.
"We believe in identifying and investing in companies that have a vision for growing their business, but lack the capital and strategic guidance necessary to realize their full potential. We have found that if we provide these companies with leadership support, proper capitalization, and appropriate management incentives, they can quickly achieve a quantum change in operating and financial performance and can transform into industry-leading businesses," said Jean-Pierre L. Conte, chairman and managing director of Genstar Capital, L.P. "Our success in raising $475 million in new capital from previous limited partners and a number of new limited partners reflects our investors' endorsement of Genstar's investment strategy and track record of delivering superior returns. The Genstar team appreciates the support and confidence of our investors."
Genstar IV's limited partners include experienced private equity investors representing a diversified base of pension plans, fund of funds, insurance companies, corporations, financial institutions, foundations, and high-net-worth individuals. Some of the investors include: Caisse de depot et placement du Quebec, The Regents of the University of California, Stichting Shell Pensioenfonds, Bregal Investments, Commonfund, Goldman Sachs Private Equity Partners Funds, The California Endowment, Grove Street Advisors for the Oregon Public Employees Retirement Fund, TD Capital, CSFB Customized Fund Investment Group, Association de Bienfaisance et de Retraite des Policiers de la Communaute Urbaine de Montreal, LGT Capital Invest Limited, The Meadows Foundation, Inc., Swiss Re Private Equity Partners, Winterthur US Fund II, L.P., J.P.
