2004 Winners

MOST INNOVATIVE APPLICATION: Bradley Corporation, Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin

Bradley Corporation's patented new Frequency(R) Lavatory System took the award for "Most Innovative Application." This Pinnacle Awards category recognizes the most original application of cultured marble, granite, onyx or solid surface. Entries were judged on their contribution to the industry, originality, execution, use of material and quality.

The Frequency's unconventional solid surface wave design combines a lower ADA-compliant sink (Americans with Disabilities Act) with a higher sink, making it ideal for washrooms in upscale retail centers, restaurants, offices, hotel lobbies and fitness centers. The first-of-its-kind design simplifies the task of meeting ADA height requirements by offering multi-height lavatories all in one unit. This product gives architects and engineers a modern looking, attractive solution for meeting accessibility codes. The Frequency Lavatory is made of Bradley's Terreon(R) solid surface material in a choice of 18 custom colors. Terreon is resistant to stains, burns, chemicals and impact. In the unlikely event the surface is damaged, it is easily repaired with everyday cleaners or fine-grit abrasives. MOST NOVEL LOOK (formerly Most Innovative Vanity): Cameo Marble, New Albany, Indiana

Cameo Marble's exclusive design Vanity Top/Bowl brought home the win for "Most Novel Look." This Pinnacle Awards category recognizes the most novel aesthetics or looks for a cast polymer product. The award honors creative use and combination of design, reproducibility, color and materials to provide a quality part for practical applications.

Cameo's winning vanity is made with solid surface resin and backed with calcium carbonate substrata. The vanity top/bowl is presently used in the powder room or master bath for high-end homes as an alternative to pedestal sinks. Cameo's entry is made by hand, in an area of their plant used for specialized production by one of the company's artists, and is not mass-produced. Each Cameo piece of this type must be commissioned before production even begins. For more information on Cameo Marble, call (812) 944-5055 in New Albany, IN or visit their website at

BEST INSTALLATION: Alantra Solid Surface - Division of Carstin Brands, Inc., Arthur, IL

Alantra Solid Surface's "Master Bath" project took the prize in the "Best Installation" category. This category recognizes quality installation and innovative applications in the field. The award honors creative use of color, design, pattern, and real-world application. Entries were judged on installation specifics, innovation, process and overall appeal.

Made entirely of Alantra Solid Surface products, the shower base of this installation is in a granite effect color and is 116'' x 60'' in size. It has a custom made solid s-curved threshold that is 6'' x 6'' to accommodate a glass block partition wall. The shower walls have a diamond effect groove routed into them inside of each groove. The whirlpool tub is in a contrasting granite effect color and is surrounded by tub deck and step. The uniqueness of this decking is the floral pattern edge treatment detailed with a 2 1/2 '' repeat pattern. The entire piece matches the color of the shower base and has a wrapping deck inlay matching the tub. The his and hers vanity tops have a contrasting granite effect deck and bowl combination with a deck inlay polygoned to match the tub deck. The floral pattern edge work was fabricated into railing that flows from the vanities around the room and is used as a decorative molding. OUTSIDE THE BOX: Tower Industries, Massillon, OH

Tower Industries took home the Pinnacle Award for the "Outside the Box" category with its "Lumistone Glow in the Dark Solid Surface." "Outside the Box" recognizes the most unusual and visually appealing use of either cultured marble or solid surface in a non-kitchen or non-bath application. Entries must be cast from a polymer-based cultured marble or solid surface material. Entries were eligible as long as they could not be classified as kitchen or bath-oriented. They were judged on criteria including visual appeal, reproducibility, commercial viability, mass market appeal and brilliance at the basics.

The unique properties of Tower Industries' Lumistone solid surface allow it to glow in the dark for eight to ten hours, and then "re-charge" with exposure to light sources. Lumistone is a joint venture creation of Tower Industries and Vistas Corporation. Jorge Alfonso and Don Saywers of Vistas Corporation created the product and Tower Industries scaled it into full production for distribution and sales. The product is being manufactured by Tower in sheet form for countertops and signage, strip form for countertop inlays and architectural moldings, liquid form to be used for countertop inlays and adhesive form to create inconspicuous seams when seaming Lumistone sheets together. The product was created to address the need for a non-electrical, secondary lighting source for use in commercial buildings. Solid surface was determined to be the best option because of the outstanding flexibility in casting and machining.
