EqualLogic PeerStorage Array Achieves Designed for Windows Logo Qualification

NASHUA, N.H.--()--Nov. 19, 2003--

EqualLogic's Intelligent Self-Managing Storage Supports Corporate Data Center Needs with Microsoft Designed for Windows Logo Qualification for the PeerStorage Array

EqualLogic(TM), Inc. announced today that its PeerStorage(TM) array has earned the Microsoft Designed for Windows Logo qualification for iSCSI devices. EqualLogic's PeerStorage intelligent self-managing storage array underwent rigorous testing to help ensure interoperability and quality assurance for Windows customers.

Microsoft extended the Designed for Windows Logo Program to include iSCSI devices based on the rapidly expanding demand by its customers for iSCSI storage area networks (SANs). iSCSI is a low-cost solution that provides superior performance, reliability and security for SANs. EqualLogic's PeerStorage array is fully compatible with Windows platforms and is designed to complement Microsoft applications such as Exchange and SQL.

Shawn Eveliegh, senior systems administrator at ZENON Environmental Inc., recently replaced a Fibre Channel SAN and implemented EqualLogic's PeerStorage iSCSI array. As he transitioned to the new hardware, he also upgraded the operating system software from Windows NT to Windows 2000. "We house a lot of our critical data applications in the Windows environment. The combination of Microsoft's support for iSCSI, the technology's cost benefits and the ease of use of EqualLogic's PeerStorage array provided a one-year return on our investment and a three-year total cost of ownership that we just couldn't come close to with our existing Fibre Channel environment."

"EqualLogic is leveraging iSCSI technology to capitalize on the mass market need for scalable and self-managing storage that supports the exponential growth of data associated with Microsoft's business-critical applications," said Zane Adam, director of product management and marketing for the Enterprise Storage Division at Microsoft. "EqualLogic and Microsoft share a common vision to make Windows the best platform for storage."

EqualLogic is working with Microsoft to demonstrate the benefits and practicality of iSCSI to solve challenging storage issues. The PeerStorage array offers superior self-managing capabilities, scalability and performance that meet data storage needs with minimal impact on 24x7 applications such as Microsoft Exchange. Each PeerStorage array is capable of supporting 256 host servers. PeerStorage technology offers a single point of management for the centralized storage of email, archives, databases and shared files storage into a single pool.

"The flexibility, simplicity and reliability of iSCSI in the Windows environment is fulfilling the need for affordable storage consolidation within corporate data centers," said John Joseph, vice president of marketing at EqualLogic. "Achieving the Designed for Windows Logo for iSCSI devices is a requirement for ensuring compatibility in Windows environments. It ensures that customers can safely deploy affordable iSCSI SANs to consolidate direct attached storage environments."
