Mr. Kinkade raised money for the Foundation by auctioning a Limited Edition canvas at each tour stop with an original hand-drawn sketch by Mr. Kinkade on the back of each canvas to make them unique. In just two weekends, October 10-12 and 17-19, 2003, these auctions raised more than $100,000, with 100% of the proceeds benefiting the Make-A-Wish Foundation. As a national spokesperson for the Foundation, Kinkade hopes his efforts will raise awareness of the organization and work towards granting the hopes, dreams, and wishes of more Make-A-Wish children.
"This experience has impacted me deeply. I feel honored to have been chosen as a national spokesman for this foundation and hope to give to these courageous Make-A-Wish children as much as I can possibly offer. They are an inspiration to us all," Kinkade said.
Thomas Kinkade's partnership with the Make-A-Wish Foundation adds to a long list of charitable foundations he has supported throughout his career. In coordination with the Thomas Kinkade Foundation, Kinkade has helped raise millions of dollars for charities around the world, including World Vision, the Salvation Army, The San Francisco Giants Community Fund, Art for Children Charities, and now the Make-A-Wish Foundation. In 2002, Kinkade was the recipient of the World Children's Center Humanitarian Award. Thomas Kinkade's ambition to spread light and joy into the homes of others has resulted in his success as the most collected living artist in U.S. history.
