"We are very pleased to be working with Atmel on the NGSCB development effort," said John Manferdelli, general manager of the Windows Trusted Platform Infrastructure group at Microsoft Corp. "Atmel's commitment to innovating on hardware solutions that will enable new levels of protection is important in helping to meet customer requirements for secure computing in the future."
The Atmel secure USB input solution is an integral part of Atmel's security portfolio ranging from secure memories, to secure microcontrollers and biometrics. "With the proliferation of networked appliances and e-commerce, consumers and enterprises are becoming increasingly concerned with the privacy and the security of their data," commented Daniel Tjoa, Product Line Director of USB Products at Atmel. "To facilitate further growth of e-commerce, it is imperative for silicon, system and software suppliers to provide highly secure products that ensures the integrity, privacy and authenticity of any user data. Our secure USB input solution is a reflection of Atmel's commitment to various industry security initiatives such as NGSCB."
The Atmel NGSCB-compatible prototype is based on the AT43USB325, an Atmel AVR-based USB keyboard controller in production today. It provides a secure data link between an USB input device and an NGSCB capable PC that prevents attacks by rogue software running on the PC. Atmel will deliver samples of a trusted input device for the NGSCB platform in several months. Pricing will be released at that time.
