SATELLITE 2015

STATE COLLEGE, Pa.--()--Teledyne Paradise Datacom, a business unit of Teledyne Microwave Solutions, is rolling out its latest innovation, the Q-MultiFlex™, at Satellite 2015, Booth #6035.

Designed for satcom networks with a central Hub and multiple remote locations, the Q-MultiFlex™ dramatically reduces the amount of hardware these networks require by providing both a modulator and up to 16 demodulators in a single rack-unit. In addition, ‘demod-only’ variants of Q-MultiFlex allow the use of as many as 100 demods for each modulator. As the number of remote sites increases, so does the potential hardware savings to be realized by customers.

Q-MultiFlex delivers additional savings to operating expenses. It sets a new industry benchmark as a point-to-multipoint system with full support for the new, super-efficient DVB-S2X communications standard. Incorporating spectral roll-offs down to 5% and other features, Q-MultiFlex maximizes the spectral efficiency of the outbound carrier and addresses latency sensitive applications using FastLink™ low-latency LDPC on the inbounds.

As a result, significant OPEX savings are achieved from using a single shared outbound in place of multiple point-to-point links, which reduces bandwidth requirements. Additional OPEX savings are achieved by adapting the sharing of the outbound to the instantaneous demands of each traffic stream, producing more bandwidth savings.

“With Q-MultiFlex, operators can avoid the common financial trade-off whereby reducing OPEX requires increasing CAPEX. With Q-MultiFlex, it’s a win-win situation,” said Colin Mackay, Vice President of Engineering for Teledyne Paradise Datacom. “By minimizing box counts at the hub and using low-cost Q-Flex™ modems at the remotes, you can roll out a point-to-multipoint network solution without breaking the bank.”

As a ‘single-box’ solution, Q-MultiFlex has far fewer interconnects and no risk of incompatibilities between multiple box solutions. Once deployed, the system’s powerful feature-set can be used to activate highly efficient links: outbound / inbound carriers at a 160 Mb/s data rate; traffic shaping in both directions; higher order modulation and advanced LDPC error correction in both directions; and XStream™ IP for maximum IP packet throughput in both directions.

For Monitor and Control, all devices in a Q-MultiFlex system can be conveniently managed from a central location using the Q-NET™ bandwidth manager. Each Teledyne Paradise Datacom unit can also be managed directly using the built-in web user interface, again keeping costs low. If a mistake is made while remotely changing the configuration of a device at an unstaffed remote site, the normal result is service downtime and a truck-roll repair. However, with Paradise’s unique Reversionary Control feature, the device automatically reverts to a known good configuration and re-establishes the link, delivering additional OPEX savings.
