BIRMINGHAM, Ala.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Books-A-Million, Inc. (Nasdaq/NM: BAMM) has officially launched its 2013 Summer Reading Program with one of Florida’s bestselling children's book authors, Carl Hiaasen. The program kicked off last week when children visited the local Books-A-Million store in Lakeland to pick up their summer reading checklist.
On Friday, May 24th, Carl Hiaasen made a personal appearance at the Lakeland Books-A-Million location to speak and promote the 2013 Summer Reading Program. The event drew an impressive crowd with more than 400 people in attendance.
“Carl Hiaasen was an avid reader when he was a child, and we hope that our 2013 Summer Reading Program empowers the children of today with avenues to explore new types of books, different authors and an array of genres with adventure and excitement,” said Sandra Wilson, Senior Buyer of Children’s and Teen Books at Books-A-Million, Inc.
Children across the U.S. who participate in the Carl Hiaasen 2013 Summer Reading Program and read six of the featured books between May 19th and August 17th will receive a free exclusive Carl Hiaasen CHOMP or HOOT backpack (while supplies last).
