e-Brief -- Spot Freight on TransCore’s DAT Network up 10 Percent in August

PORTLAND, Ore.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Spot market freight availability increased by almost 10 percent in August, compared to July, according to the TransCore Freight Index, a measure of truckload freight volume found on load boards supported by the DAT Network, including 3sixty Freight Match and TruckersEdge.net. In the past two years, by contrast, freight postings declined by an average of 22 percent from July to August.

The 10 percent month-to-month uptick continues a trend of better-than-seasonal improvement, although August 2009 spot freight volume was off by 31percent compared to that of a year ago. While spot freight volume has yet to return to levels considered “normal,” freight volumes continue to improve at a better-than-seasonal rate.
