NEWS BRIEF – TransCore to Present “Making Greener Choices” at the Parking Association of Georgia’s Spring Conference
RFID Technology Helps Parking Authorities Reduce Carbon Emissions at their Facilities
SAVANNAH, Ga.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--“Making Greener Choices: Sustainability through the use of radio frequency identification (RFID)-based automatic vehicle identification (AVI) technology,” is TransCore’s presentation topic at the Parking Association of Georgia’s (PAG) Spring Conference on April 23, 2009. David Tilley, TransCore’s regional sales manager, Commercial RFID technologies, will explain how RFID and AVI technologies work to lower emissions and associated fuel consumption, and improve throughput and congestion to improve parking facilities’ carbon footprint.
Wireless RFID technology used for parking and access control, and also deployed for wireless payment of tolls throughout the country, allows vehicles to enter and exit parking garages virtually without stopping, keeping access smooth and backups limited. This results in reduced idle times and significantly decreases carbon emission output on a consistent basis. An estimated 25-30 percent decrease in idle times is possible utilizing RFID-based automatic vehicle identification technology.
RFID and AVI parking solutions have been proven to be more efficient and ultimately less costly than traditional swipe cards or keypads. TransCore offers a wide variety of low-cost vehicle tags able to achieve high performance without the need for batteries. Currently over 80 percent of our product is non-battery, further contributing to TransCore’s commitment to sustainability.
