Pacer International Names Kent Prokop President of its Warehousing & Distribution Group
The Warehousing and Distribution operation functions as part of the company's retail segment, which provides a full menu of logistics services to manufacturers and retailers.
Based at the Pacer office and cross-dock facility at South Gate, California, a suburb of Los Angeles, Prokop had previously served as vice president of an affiliated unit, Pacer Cartage, since 1999. From 1996-99, he was general manager of Interstate Consolidation, Inc., which was acquired by Pacer in 1997. Prior to joining Pacer, Prokop served in key marketing and operations posts for ABF and Roadway Express.
"Warehousing and distribution services, including cross-dock and other freight-handling operations, are a core element of Pacer's spectrum of logistics capabilities," said Michael Uremovich, Pacer International's vice chairman, who announced the promotion. "Kent Prokop knows many of our customers and is well qualified to help us strengthen our Southern California freight-handing operations as well as expand them to other locations."
Said Prokop: "I am fully aware of the need for precision in cross-dock and other freight-handling operations as part of the smooth functioning of our customers' overall supply chains. We will support their discrete freight-handling needs, as well as the freight-handling component of more comprehensive, integrated supply-chain services that many of them require."
The Warehousing and Distribution unit's services include consolidation, deconsolidation, cross-dock work, warehousing, related drayage, container-yard (CY), and other services.
