Pacer Stacktrain Exec Named White House Fellow by President Bush
Amlani will be one of just 12 Americans who will serve as White House Fellows beginning in September, and the only one from the transportation sector.
White House Fellows, selected for their professional accomplishment, leadership potential, commitment to public service and other attributes, typically work for one year as full-time paid special assistants to senior White House Staff, the Vice President, Cabinet Secretaries, or other top-ranking government officials.
"While we will miss Ajay's help," said Tom Shurstad, Pacer Stacktrain's president, "we are confident that he will be a valuable contributor to the program and the nation's business, and we are very proud that one of our own has been selected for this responsibility."
Said Amlani: "I am grateful to my colleagues at Pacer Stacktrain for supporting my candidacy. This is the experience of a lifetime and I expect it will enable me to make growing contributions in the future."
Amlani, who was born and raised in Troy, Michigan and holds a BS magna cum laude in Engineering and a MBA from the University of Michigan, worked in strategy consulting and held leadership positions with CSX Transportation prior to joining Pacer Stacktrain in March, 2002. At Pacer, he was acknowledged for contributing to the company's financial success and expansion of the use of rail or "intermodal" transportation for U.S.-Mexico cross-border freight, helping to reduce highway and border congestion and pollution.
A resident of San Francisco, he has also been active in community work, serving as a board member and leader of such groups as YMCA Urban Services, the Children's Council of San Francisco, and the Network of Indian Professionals.
Amlani is the second Pacer Stacktrain executive who has served as a White House Fellow. John Orrison, who is currently the company's executive vice president for strategic planning and product development, was a member of the class of 1989-90.

About the White House Fellows Program -- Founded in 1964 by President Johnson, the White House Fellows program is a non-partisan program for leadership and public service. In its fourth decade, the program offers exceptional young men and women first-hand experience working at the highest levels of the Federal government by working with senior White House and Cabinet officials. Fellows repay that privilege by working after the Fellowship year as private citizens on their public agendas and contributing to the nation as future leaders.
The program has fostered a legacy of leadership, with nearly 600 alumni who are respected leaders across the country and in their professions. Alumni include Secretary of State Colin Powell, Secretary of Labor Elaine Chao, former CNN President Tom Johnson, and American Red Cross President Marsha Evans.
