Pacer International Selects Qiva for Transportation Management and Supply-chain Visibility

CONCORD, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 6, 2001--

Leading Logistics and Transportation Services Provider Pacer Signs

Contract for Advanced Software Solution to Provide for Enhanced

Customer Competitiveness, Growth and Improved Internal Business

Processes

Pacer International (www.pacerintl.com), a non-asset based North American logistics provider, announced it selected Qiva, Inc. (www.qiva.com), to provide a complete suite of customized applications that will offer enhanced supply-chain visibility, logistics management and other service benefits for its customers.

Pacer said it will invest approximately $10 million for licensing, development, implementation and related consulting and transition services designed to improve performance for Pacer customers. The specific value of the contract with Qiva, a leading provider of transportation-management and supply-chain execution solutions, was not disclosed.

Implementation will be phased in over the next 12 to 18 months.

"Our aim is to increase the competitiveness of Pacer's customers by improving their access to real-time information about their individual shipments and overall supply chains, and by giving them advanced exception-management and event-forecasting capabilities," said Walter Peckham, Pacer's chief information officer.

"At the same time, the Qiva event-management and enterprise systems will enable Pacer to better manage its internal processes, from pricing to tracking to equipment maintenance and control. We expect this to be a real advantage in view of the company's recent acquisitions and continuing fast growth."

"Real-time, exception-based reporting will help our customers more effectively manage their supply chains while shortening the transportation cycle and reducing cost," said Denis Bruncak, head of Pacer Global Logistics, the Ohio-based retail division that provides integrated consolidation, cross-dock, trucking, warehousing and other logistics and supply-chain management services directly to manufacturers and retailers.

Added Gene Pentimonti, president of Pacer Stacktrain: "The information we will provide to intermodal marketing companies and to their customers -- the manufacturers, distribution centers and retailers -- will increase Pacer's value to them. It will enable them to make better distribution and marketing decisions." Pacer Stacktrain operates a 50,000-mile double-stack rail network for the distribution of containerized freight throughout North America, the largest system of its kind.

Qiva Expanding into New Transport, Logistics Markets

The agreement with Pacer signals Qiva's fast-growing expansion into diversified transportation and logistics markets while continuing to provide solutions to the maritime carrier community, where it has held a leadership position for over a decade, Qiva said.

"Our relationship with Pacer International and Pacer Stacktrain is a significant milestone for Qiva's transportation-management and logistics business, leading us into new industry sectors such as rail, trucking and intermodal, freight forwarding and third-party logistics," said Peter Young, Qiva's Senior Vice President for Global Logistics Services, based in San Francisco.

"Pacer's selection of Qiva demonstrates the depth of our industry expertise, the breadth of our product line, and 12 years of global implementation experience. We are very pleased to welcome Pacer as our newest customer."
