Pacer International (www.pacerintl.com), a non-asset based North American logistics provider, announced it selected Qiva, Inc. (www.qiva.com), to provide a complete suite of customized applications that will offer enhanced supply-chain visibility, logistics management and other service benefits for its customers.
Pacer said it will invest approximately $10 million for licensing, development, implementation and related consulting and transition services designed to improve performance for Pacer customers. The specific value of the contract with Qiva, a leading provider of transportation-management and supply-chain execution solutions, was not disclosed.
Implementation will be phased in over the next 12 to 18 months.
"Our aim is to increase the competitiveness of Pacer's customers by improving their access to real-time information about their individual shipments and overall supply chains, and by giving them advanced exception-management and event-forecasting capabilities," said Walter Peckham, Pacer's chief information officer.
"At the same time, the Qiva event-management and enterprise systems will enable Pacer to better manage its internal processes, from pricing to tracking to equipment maintenance and control. We expect this to be a real advantage in view of the company's recent acquisitions and continuing fast growth."

Added Gene Pentimonti, president of Pacer Stacktrain: "The information we will provide to intermodal marketing companies and to their customers -- the manufacturers, distribution centers and retailers -- will increase Pacer's value to them. It will enable them to make better distribution and marketing decisions." The agreement with Pacer signals Qiva's fast-growing expansion into diversified transportation and logistics markets while continuing to provide solutions to the maritime carrier community, where it has held a leadership position for over a decade, Qiva said.
