Latest Acquisition Increases Pacer`s Role in Supply-Chain Management; Fourth Acquisition in Eight Months Further Broadens Service Menu

LAFAYETTE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 17, 1998-- now including PLMC -- provides consolidation, cartage services, and other supply-chain-related services.

Its intermodal marketing units -- Interstate Consolidation, ABL-Trans, and Cross Con -- which will be merged under the unit name Pacer Intermodal, arrange intermodal freight movements throughout North America for manufacturers and retailers, and provide customized electronic tracking, analysis of accessorial charges, and other information support.

The Pacer Transport unit provides flatbed and heavy-haul specialized trucking services and specialized consolidation services for rail carriers. The group's other services -- all available through a single provider -- include truck brokerage, less-than-truckload transport, truckload drayage, warehousing, cross-dock services, and intermodal rail car maintenance and repair. The Pacer group has some 310 employees (of which 60 pertained to PLMC), 120 agents, and a network of more than 730 owner-operators. The group is based in Lafayette, California.
