Johns Manville Receives Home American Building Product Award for EnviroAire™ Formaldehyde-Free™ Duct Board

DENVER--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Johns Manville (JM), a leading building products manufacturer based in Denver, today is being honored with an American Building Product Award from Home Magazine for its EnviroAire™ Formaldehyde-free™ Duct Board. The award recognizes outstanding innovation, design, energy efficiency and convenience in new building products and is being presented at the International Builders’ Show in Orlando. This is the second consecutive year in which Johns Manville has received this award – JM’s Gorilla Wrap™ Translucent Housewrap was honored in 2007.

“We are honored to receive this award from Home Magazine”

EnviroAire, introduced in early 2007, is a naturally white Formaldehyde-free™ fiber glass duct insulation board that offers quiet comfort for homeowners and contributes superior thermal and acoustical performance. It also helps reduce the moisture condensation in homes that can lead to mold growth. Along with JM’s full line of Formaldehyde-free fiber glass building insulation, EnviroAire improves indoor air quality because it’s manufactured without formaldehyde. And with the average American spending up to 90 percent of their time indoors, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recommends limiting exposure to formaldehyde as much as possible.

“We are honored to receive this award from Home Magazine,” said Stephen Crouch, residential segment leader, Johns Manville Insulation Systems. “We’ve seen a great response from builders who appreciate the ease of installing EnviroAire and from homeowners who want the greater protection from formaldehyde, bacteria, mold or fungus in their home’s air stream, while also increasing comfort, lowering energy costs and benefiting from acoustical improvements.”

Unlike most metal and other ducts on the market, EnviroAire's blue EnviroCoate™ Reinforced Coating System features an antimicrobial treatment to protect the air-stream surface against damage from the potential growth of bacteria, mold and fungus for the life of the product. In addition, it controls condensation, eliminating a major source of moisture which can lead to mold growth that can cause health problems after long-term exposure.

The acoustical qualities and sound-absorbing properties of EnviroAire noticeably decrease the audibility of crosstalk and also eliminate the “popping” sounds, vibrations, equipment rumbles and other noises typically associated with noisy metal duct systems. Because EnviroAire has an added layer of insulation not found in ordinary metal air ducts, the higher R-values also deliver warm or cool air with consistently high thermal performance resulting in consistent room-to-room temperatures within the home.

EnviroAire has also been recognized as a 2007 “Cool Product Award Winner” by Pacific Coast Builders Conference (PCBC) judges. For more information on EnviroAire or other Johns Manville products, visit JMHomeowner.com.
