Johns Manville Honored by National Safety Council for Excellence in Workplace Safety
DENVER--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Exemplifying its commitment to workplace safety, Johns Manville (JM), a leading manufacturer of premium-quality building and specialty products, today announced that the organization and 22 of its plants throughout the United States were awarded “Excellence in Safety” honors from the National Safety Council (NSC), a nonprofit, nongovernmental service organization devoted to protecting life and promoting health.
“To have our dedication to workplace safety recognized in such an overwhelming way by the National Safety Council is an extremely gratifying milestone,” said Steve Hochhauser, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Johns Manville. “These honors not only highlight the valuable contributions our employees, plant managers and executive teams make every day to ensure a successful and safe work environment, but they further underscore Johns Manville’s commitment to excellence in all we do and fostering an environment of world-class safety.”
To earn the NSC’s “Excellence in Safety” distinction, companies are ranked in a peer group among other organizations that have similar overall business footprints. A company’s individual plants are judged among their peers in the same North American Industry Classification System.
Johns Manville and its 22 facilities that earned the prestigious honors exceeded the NSC’s qualifications for the “Excellence in Safety” award, which include maintaining a lost time injury rate of 50-percent or less than their peer corporations/facilities and no work-related fatalities in the reporting year.
Founded in 1913 and chartered by the U.S. Congress in 1953, the NSC has a membership of more than 48,000 businesses, labor organizations, schools, public agencies, private groups and individuals.
