Humana Medicare Member Celebrates 107th Birthday
South Florida Senior Shares Secrets for Long, Healthy Life
MIRAMAR, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Joseph Urbanski of Miami Beach has led a long and amazing life. Growing up in Detroit, he sold cosmetics door to door as a way to meet women. Later, he honed his business skills, selling everything from pianos to cars to sewing machines. He was married for 67 years, and he’s been married to his current wife, who’s 90, for 13 years.
And, on Aug. 15, 2009, Joseph Urbanski turned 107.
Mr. Urbanski is a Humana Medicare Advantage member, and at 107, most likely the oldest of Humana’s nearly 3.5 million Medicare members across the country. Mr. Urbanski, a Humana member since 1992, celebrated his latest birthday recently with his wife, Mieczys Urbanski, South Florida Humana associates, friends and medical staff of MCCI - Miami Beach, the wholly owned affiliated health care provider of Humana where Mr. Urbanski has been a patient for the past 17 years.
Humana Florida Senior Products CEO Michael Seltzer presented Mr. Urbanski at the birthday celebration with a certificate of recognition from Humana, Florida’s largest Medicare health benefits provider.
“Mr. Urbanski has certainly reached an impressive milestone – one that many of us would no doubt like to attain,” said Seltzer. “We are extremely proud and happy to have him as a Humana member. He is the perfect role model for many of our seniors on how to live a long, fruitful and rewarding life.”
Mr. Urbanski is in good health, thanks in part to his doctor Joseph Lemaire, M.D. of the MCCI medical group, and notes that he doesn’t take any medications, except for one to control his temper. He’s not on a special diet, and said he eats “whatever’s on sale at Publix (Supermarkets).”
At 107, Mr. Urbanski still likes to stay busy. He cleans the floor; washes the laundry and the dishes. Even at his age, he would like to learn how to cook, but his wife, Mieczys, won’t let him because he’s “too messy.”
The activity Mr. Urbanski misses most is dancing. His first wife didn’t like to dance; she preferred playing cards, he said, so she’d find him women to dance with. He danced the waltz, polka and fox trot, and picked up more “dance moves” by watching Lawrence Welk on TV every Sunday evening at 7 p.m.
